Fenway Park

Growing up there was nothing I wanted more than to see a baseball game at Fenway Park.  Even as a child, being raised around Yankee faithful in upstate New York, I remember marveling while watching television.  The giant, green wall, the up close & person right field wall, the foul poles that were named after ballplayers… Despite being a proud member of Red Sox Nation for a large part of my youth, it was regretful I wasn’t afforded to opportunity to visit Fenway Park until I became old enough to pay my own way.

I remember the first time I first laid eyes on Fenway Park in person and the emotions that overtook me.  It may sound corny but when I first laid eyes on the outer walls, everything felt right to me.  The years where I had essentially closeted my support for the Red Sox while living in enemy territory all came to light and for the first time in my baseball life, I felt adjudicated.  That night, while standing in the Bud Light porch, I felt almost a surreal experience. You know there’s a reason so many movies filmed in Boston have Fenway Park somewhere in the story board.  Fenway is an almost magical place that cries tradition unlike anything you can experience.  Unlike today’s state-of-the-art ballparks that have more crap do to inside stadium walls, Fenway Park is a place where one can sense the history of baseball and get a true feel for everything that is America’s pastime.

We didn’t have a lot of money growing up so I was only able to do so much watching baseball in person.  As an adult, I have been so fortunate to take in games at so many different parks, in an number of different states, and at various levels.  My wife and I literally took our honeymoon along the West coast strictly for the purpose of catching games up and down California.  The point is I’ve been to countless MLB stadiums, seen so many live games, and nothing…absolutely nothing compares to the Fenway Park experience.  I know baseball fans who cannot stand the Boston Red Sox but they agree Fenway is unlike no other.

For those folks who have never seen nor done, I would suggest booking the trip as soon as feasible.  Fenway Park is a must experience for every avid baseball fan and a great time for the family.

I encourage those who have Fenway photos or experiences to share, please do so via bamasox on Twitter.
